Heavily Compromised Series 1
Naomi’s Inner Rebel and studies of Female Conformity are referenced in this thought-provoking and provocative piece, originally spray painted on White Cross Street, EC1.
This piece is a good example of Naomi’s early work as a Street Artist containing largely autobiographical elements. Naomi constructed an alter ego; ShyGuy (her Street Artist’s tag name) and typically introduced characters into her work, which were usually originating as photography of herself. This simple but striking piece features one of her most well-known characters; The Compromise Girl.
The Compromise Girl had such a touching reaction with the public, that she became a Series. In this picture, The Compromise Girl is begrudgingly writing typical, school styled lines of ‘I must compromise’ to represent a punishment handed out for going against the authority of ‘Society’ and what is deemed best for you, and therefore ‘misbehaving’.
‘Heavily Compromised’ is synonymous with some of Naomi’s other works which were made in rebellion to the pressure she was feeling to behave a certain way. A real Collector’s piece, the study stands as a note-to-self that you are good enough to deserve happiness and, have the strength in you to fight for that.
This piece is available as an original on wood, as a print and also as a postcard.
